A review of 2025

### Reflections of a Tour Professional: Highlights, Feedback, and Looking Ahead to 2025
As a tour professional, the twilight of the season is a unique time—a moment to prepare for the Christmas rush while reflecting on what worked (and what didn’t) this past year. It’s also a time to plan for how to make next year even better.
On the whole, the end of a tour season is marked by a few goodbyes and a sense of closure as we all move on. Some clients come back to express their gratitude, while others don’t—and that’s just part of the job. Recently, I received a batch of reviews from a tour company I collaborated with during the summer of 2024. They ranged from the succinct to the detailed—and all offered valuable insights.
#### The Reviews Are In: A Mix of Humor and Lessons
Here are some of the comments I received, along with my thoughts on them:
1. **“Glen was great!”**
I can forgive this person for misspelling my name—it’s the sentiment that counts!
2. **“Very nice to us when everyone fell asleep from exhaustion. Didn’t take it personally. Friendly.”**
At first glance, I could interpret this as, “I bored everyone to sleep.” But the guiding perspective always puts a positive spin on things: a good guide knows their audience and understands when to speak and when to let silence take over.
3. **“Glyn got sidetracked on a lot of history at times rather than what we were looking at.”**
This likely happened during a tour stuck in traffic or while navigating lesser-known parts of London. Sometimes, focusing on history is the best way to make the most of a less-than-ideal situation. Still, it’s a reminder to stay attuned to what the group wants in the moment.
4. **“Mr. Jones was very knowledgeable. I really like him ???”**
As the saying goes, “you can’t please all the people all the time.” I’ll take the compliment and move on.
5. **“Glynn was stupendous! I feel bad for those groups that don’t get to have him for their local tour.”**
This one made my day and will serve as a badge of honor throughout the winter months.
#### Lessons Learned from Feedback
Evaluations are invaluable for professional growth. Comments like “too much history” stick with me and will flash through my mind next time I start discussing the Romans in the City of London. However, as a guide, I only have a short time to share my knowledge before the tour moves on, so I aim to strike a balance between information and engagement.
